iCapital, a financial technology company providing an alternative investment marketplace, partnered with 8 Acre Perspective to conduct a survey of financial advisors to understand attitudes and usage of alternative investment products.

The research was conducted among 400 registered financial professionals who currently use, or are likely to consider, alternatives. Highlights include:

• Continued growth of alternative investments usage is expected, with 51% planning to allocate more to alts over the next 12 months and just 5% planning to allocate less.
• Advisors consider diversification the primary benefit of alternatives usage.
• Lock-up periods, high fees, and complexities explaining alternative investments to clients are top barriers to usage.
• Advisors find value in tools that can help them analyze the impact of alternatives on a portfolio (85% would find valuable).
