Janus Henderson Investors, a global asset management firm, partnered with 8 Acre Perspective to explore how the macro environment (e.g., challenging political climate, volatile market, and unsettled economic environment) is shaping individual investor attitudes and behaviors.
The research was conducted among 1,000 U.S. investors with $250K+ investable assets, including 44% with $1M+ assets. Highlights include:
- Investors are concerned about several factors impacting their financial situation, including persistent inflation, risk of recession and rising interest rates. The most widespread concern, however, is uncertainty about the 2024 presidential election (78% concerned, 49% very concerned).
- A majority of investors want actively managed funds as a meaningful component of their portfolio. Among respondents owning mutual funds or ETFs, 37% prefer an equal mix of active and passive managers and 29% prefer mainly active managers.
- Across generations, investors express a desire to build their knowledge level of investments, with Millennials and Gen-X expressing the greatest interest.
- Among those with a financial advisor, 65% are very satisfied with the relationship, and 33% are somewhat satisfied. What most differentiates these two audiences is whether they feel their advisor cares about them as a person, beyond just their financial situation.
